If you’ve ever swooned over New York Times bestselling author Rebecca Serle’s books, then there’s only more good news coming. With four of those books currently slated for adaptation, there’s plenty for fans to get excited about. We’re sharing everything we know so far about Serle’s stories hitting the screen.

Already Adapted

Rebecca Serle’s foray into Hollywood came when she developed a hit TV show from her YA series, Famous in Love, and a film adaptation of her novel, When You Were Mine. And she’ll be involved in producing her upcoming adaptations too. If you haven’t seen these yet (or need a rewatch while you wait for more), here’s what you need to know.

Famous in Love: TV series 2017-18

A Freeform original series now found on various streaming platforms, Famous in Love ran for two seasons. It stars Bella Thorne as Paige, a college student dealing with overnight fame after being cast in a huge Hollywood movie. To top it off, she’s got chemistry with her co-leads—queer love triangle fans, rejoice—and she gets involved in the mystery of a missing pop star. Full of delicious drama, this binge-worthy series is perfect for a PJs and popcorn night.

Rosaline: Film released October 14, 2022

Based on Serle’s novel When You Were MineRosaline is a comic retelling of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet from the perspective of a snarky, jilted Rosaline.  She schemes to win Romeo back and inserts herself along the way of the familiar plot, with a few twists. Starring Kaitlyn Dever and Minnie Driver, this hilarious film would probably be approved by The Bard himself. You can find the film on multiple streaming platforms.

Announced Adaptatations

In Five Years: Film TBA

With over a million copies sold, fans are sure to line up for the adaptation of In Five Years. In 2022, New Line Cinema acquired the rights for HBO, with Aimee Lagos writing the screenplay adaptation. Thomas Bezucha has been attached as director. Filming will take place in New York City and was scheduled to begin February 2026. So far we don’t have news on casting, but we can’t wait to see who will play Dannie and her bohemian best friend, Bella.

The story is about Dannie, whose life is all going to plan until she spends one hour in the future—in five years. Everything in that hour is different from where she expected to be and it haunts her, prompting a journey of self-discovery and friendship.

Expiration Dates: Film TBA

Amazon MGM Studios is in development with several producing partners for an adaptation of Expiration Dates, with Emma Robertson attached to play the lead. That’s all we know for now, but with a star like Emma involved both as an actor and producer, we hope production will begin soon. And it seems like Rebecca herself will be involved in writing the screenplay adaptation.

The novel follows Daphne, who has received a slip of paper with a name and date for every relationship—even a three-day one—that seems to predict who she will date and when it will end. But then she gets a slip of paper with just one word: Jake. No expiration date this time. This could be her happy ever after, but something seems off. It’s a charming romance about destiny and free will that’s already cinematic. We can’t wait to watch!

One Italian Summer

One Italian Summer: Film TBA

Paramount Pictures bought the rights to One Italian Summer, with plans for production in 2026. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that Academy Award-winning actor Brie Larson is set to star.

In the book, Katy is grieving her mom, who was her best friend. She seeks healing on a beautiful trip to the pretty pastel town of Positano, Italy, but she’s shocked to meet the younger version of her mom there. Themes of relationships and self-discovery are where Rebecca Serle shines, and the film adaptation is likely to be gorgeous—that coastal Italy magic—and emotional.

Once and Again

Once and Again: Film TBA

Two weeks ahead of the publication of her 2026 book Once and Again, it was announced that Apple Original Films bought the film rights. It’s still early in development, but Liz Tigelaar, who adapted Little Fires Everywhere, is on board for the screenplay, and Piece of Work Entertainment will produce. They gave us Lessons in Chemistry for AppleTV+, so we’re in good hands.

The story follows Lauren, a woman with a special, inherited gift to turn back time, but only once in her lifetime. She finds herself at a crossroads in her marriage, taking a break in her hometown while her husband spends the summer on a job in New York. She runs into her childhood sweetheart, and sparks reignite. Lauren has a choice to use her one chance to rewrite history, but will going back really make things better?
