Sci-fi author Andy Weir first launched into fame after his acclaimed novel The Martian and its subsequent film adaptation. Fans of Weir and science fiction will be treated again with an adaptation of Project Hail Mary, set to release in theatres March 20, 2026.

Ryan Gosling will take to the screen and the stars as Dr. Ryland Grace, a molecular biologist and middle school science teacher who is recruited to investigate the death of stars across the universe and prevent the Sun from dying. The journey is complicated by Grace’s amnesia upon waking up from an induced coma, the death of his two crewmates, and a harrowing alien encounter. Stranded light years away from other humans with the fate of the entire Earth at stake, Grace must rely on his scientific knowledge and a healthy dose of courage to stop the Sun from dying.

Sandra Hüller, known for her appearance in Anatomy of a Fall, will play as Eva Stratt, the head of Project Hail Mary. Milana Vayntrub has been cast as Olesya Ilyukhina, one of Grace’s fellow astronauts.

The trailer saw a record-shattering debut, garnering 400 million views in its first week and solidifying its place as the most viewed original movie trailer of all time. In preparation for one of the most anticipated films of 2026 to drop, longtime Weir fans and new enthusiasts can grab a copy of Project Hail Mary or blast off with The Martian.
