It’s October, the month of chills, thrills and horror and nothing is better than celebrating with a new series that contains all of these elements. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, coming to Netflix October 26, is the tale of Sabrina the witch and her decision to live in either her witch-bound world with her family or her mortal world with her friends and a lot of teenage love. This series is from the creators of Riverdale so you know it’s going to be dark, mysterious and full of fabulous characters. To fill your cauldron with more potions and spells, I have compiled a list of books that will keep you spooked before the premiere.

Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman

The Owens sisters were born witches and have been blamed for all the bad things in their town and have been taunted their whole lives. All they want to do is lead normal lives. Their bond of sisterhood is stronger than they know and the magic they hold is something they can’t control, causing havoc in Practical Magic.

Final Girls by Riley Sager

The only survivor of a horror-movie-style massacre, Quincy Carpenter is finally at a place in her life where she has pushed past the dark and tragic memories from that night. But when another survivor of “Sack Man” shows up at her doorstep, Quincy will have to revisit that night and do what she can to not become the next victim.

A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

Diana Bishop, a descendant of witches, discovers a mystical manuscript that sends her into an underworld where she and a vampire geneticist must navigate. Although we’re not sure if vampires will appear in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, we’re still a sucker for the dark figures.

Witches of East End by Melissa de la Cruz

Three witch sisters, who have suppressed their powers for years, are caught at a crossroads. When a mysterious man arrives in town, they realize they must use their magic to fight the dark forces, while also working to hide their magical talents from their community.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa

The origin of the series! Sixteen-year-old Sabrina is at a crossroads in her life and must choose between her mortal world or her “unearthly destiny.” A must-read for fans of this new Netflix show and a great digital read for a spooky October night.
