What Hollywood is reading in July

Hollywood’s elite are jet setting this month for holiday getaways and much needed vacations.  They are not short of the best accomplice on a vacation- books!  The variety that Hollywood is reading ranges from historical fiction to non-fiction to debut novels.  I always love to see what celebrities are reading but never more so as we are seeing so many stars attaching themselves to screen adaptations!

Jennifer Garner is reading A Place for Us by Fatima Farheen Mirza

Sarah Jessica Parkers first book under her new imprint SJP for Hogarth is about the reuniting of an Indian family during a wedding and all the emotions that go along with it.  The book tells the story of the parents, Rafiq and Layla and the start of their life in America and raising their children with the importance of their culture in an ever-changing society.

Reese Witherspoon is freading Next Year in Havana by Chanel Cleeton

This is Reese Witherspoon’s July book club pick!  Set in Havana, the book takes place in 1958 and present day when young Marisol is forced to go back to the country of her ancestors to fulfill the last wish of her late grandmother.  Upon arrival, Marisol sees the beauty of Cuba and why her grandmother loved it so much as well as learning more about her family all the while falling in love with a man who has secrets of his own.

Kate Bosworth is reading Local Girls by Caroline Zancan

Maggie, Lindsey and Nina are all best friends who are living in Florida and spending their summer on the beach, working and hanging out at the local watering hole.  One night, they meet one of their favorite celebrities, as they are celeb obsessed ladies. The course of events that take place that evening change their lives and reminds them that the friendships can be so influential.

Sarah Jessica Parker is reading A Ladder to the Sky by John Boyne

Coming soon.  The upcoming novel by John Boyne is about Maurice Swift,  a man who is struggling to obtain fame in the writing world.  He decides meeting an already famous novelist, Erich Ackermann, will be the one thing that will jumpstart his career.  After this encounter with Ackermann, Swift is catapulted into a fame he can’t live without and sets off to feed for more but soon realizes having everything may not be all it’s cracked up to be.

Shiri Appleby is reading All We Ever Wanted by Emily Giffin

All We Ever Wanted is the latest from the AH-mazing Emily Giffin.  The book deals with Lyla and Finch who attend the same private school.  Lyla is put into a compromising situation that goes viral and Finch is to blame.  Intertwining two different families at the core, this book will break and warm your heart all at the same time.


Tom Hanks reading in July

Tom Hanks is reading Our Towns by James and Deborah Fallows

The Fallows having been traveling all over America visiting small towns.  Over the past five years the have collected stories from these towns and their people during a time in our country that is complex, at times divided and desperate.  These stories and the people that tell them, restore faith in humanity and the possibility of hopes and dreams.
