We may be book lovers first and foremost around here, but we also love a good binge session of all the great movies and TV that entertainment has to offer. Some are amazing novels that have been adapted to film and others are just great stories we can’t wait to get into. Here’s what we’ll be watching in July 2023.

Movies

Whether you’re venturing to the theaters to beat the heat or enjoying an all-day stream session, summer blockbuster season is officially in full swing. From heartwarming romance to epic historical fiction, there’s something for everyone out this month.

Barbie

Say what you will about our favorite plastic person, but this movie looks like it will be a lot of fun. With Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling leading the film, this has some serious heavy hitters from the acting world. The explosion of pink gives us all those nostalgic vibes and we can’t wait to see how this toy that has impacted generations of kids plays out on the big screen.

Happiness for Beginners

Happiness for Beginners

Katherine Center tells some of the most heart-warning stories you can find and her novel Happiness for Beginners will be out on Netflix July 27. With The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star Ellie Kemper and Yellowstone’s Luke Grimes starring, we’re already swooning. In the story, recently divorced Helen Carpenter agrees to go on a wilderness survival trip at the urging of her brother. Lost in her own way, she tries to find footing in the woods and her brother’s best friend is along for the trip. With one of our favorite romance novel tropes involved, we’re sure it will be a winner.

The Out-Laws

If you need a light watch for an easy summer day, Adam DeVine’s new action-comedy out on Netflix is bound to be a fun romp. When strait-laced bank manager, Owen, meets his future in-laws, their interactions are lukewarm at best. But when he discovers they are infamous bank robbers, things heat up!

Joy Ride

In this new movie Bridesmaids meets Road Trip when Audrey’s business trip to Asia goes off the rails. Seeking the help of her childhood best friend and a few other quirky characters, they take a trip filled with laughs, ludicrous antics and debauchery. Along the way she learns to love herself for who she is and where she comes from.

TV

While summer tends to be a bit of a slow down for TV premieres, a few beloved shows are back with a second season. And if you haven’t seen these shows, now is a good time to get caught up!

The Witcher

The Witcher Season 3

When Henry Cavill hit the screen with Season 1 of The Witcher, audiences fell hard for his portrayal of Geralt. Being a huge fan of the books, Cavill not only brought his A-list star power to the screen, but a deep wealth of knowledge regarding the story. Now in its third season, The Witcher is saying goodbye to Cavill after this release and Liam Hemsworth is going to take his place in the leading role. Whether you’re thrilled or heartbroken over the switch, we get once last chance to see Cavill in the role.
