Mrs. Everything by Jennifer Weiner

Jennifer Weiner has been a personal favorite of mine since her debut in 2002 when I went into the book store and shyly asked, “Do you have Good in Bed?” It was just awkward! Now, with 14 books, including a memoir and middle-grade reads, Weiner is a prolific author who only keeps getting better. Check out her latest, a sweeping saga about two sisters navigating a tumultuous world, Mrs. Everything.

City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert

Who didn’t know about Eat, Pray, Love, Gilbert’s first memoir? It was everywhere in 2006 and the movie adaptation starred Julia Roberts. Gilbert is a multi-award winning author and she has shared her words in memoir form, fiction and in inspirational works. Her latest is City of Girls, a story about a girl in the 1940s who is sent to live with her eccentric aunt who runs a rundown theater in New York.

Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Taylor Jenkins Reid is an auto-buy for me and I’ve absolutely loved every single book she’s written. From her very first, Forever Interrupted (where I cried my eyes out), to After I Do, One True Loves and The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, I have quite the collection! Taylor has a gift for sharing stories that will break and mend your heart all in one reading. Daisy Jones & The Six is a knock-out book that reads like an insider interview about a famous ‘70s band. Literally, when I started reading it, I googled the band name, truly believing that I was reading an insider account about a real band. It’s fiction at its finest.

Not That Bad: Dispatches from Rape Culture edited by Roxane Gay

Roxane Gay is probably best known for her memoir, Hunger, where she tackles the struggles women have with their bodies and shares personal stories about her journey to acceptance. She also writes extensively about rape culture in Not That Bad: Dispatches from Rape Culture. She discusses culture and society in Bad Feminist and takes a look at her evolution as a woman in this intimate and funny essay collection. If you haven’t read her work yet, pick up one of her books – any one of them – and you’ll be a fan for life.

The Friends We Keep by Jane Green

In 2001 I discovered the talents of Jane Green when I read Jemima J, a story about an overweight girl who is struggling with all things in life. This was one of the first books I read that had an ‘internet’ romance, and I loved the story! Her latest, The Friends We Keep, is about three friends from college who swore they’d be friends forever, and what happens when they are reunited 30 years later.

The Rest of the Story by Sarah Dessen

We had to include a young adult author on this list, and Sarah Dessen is definitely a bestseller! Her 14th novel is out now – The Rest of the Story, which is about a girl who spends a summer on the lake with her dead mother’s family. During that summer, she will discover things about her mother’s side of the family and reconnect with the boy who was her best friend when she was little.
