We are always excited to hear that some of our favorite books are on the way to the big (and small) screen and this week is bursting with news of optioned novels, fresh screenplays and delightful casting tidbits. From sci-fi stories featuring Jenna Ortega to two fun releases about Gillian Flynn, we’ve rounded up the book news readers will relish in.
Gillian Flynn’s Dark Places Limited Series and ‘Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman’
We’re always thrilled to hear that we’re getting more from the internationally bestselling author of Gone Girl. From adaptations to original series and movies to her own publishing imprint, Flynn is always in the storytelling world. And while she’s teased that she’s working on a new book, very few details are available regarding her first novel since 2012.
Still, we can all get amped about the two big announcements made this week. First, word got out that HBO is developing a limited series from her novel Dark Places. For those who devoured Sharp Objects, the limited series starring Amy Adams, this is a very appealing TV prospect. Though the book was made into a movie starring Charlize Theron in 2015, it made a fairly low key splash. So fans of the novel can hope the story goes deeper (and maybe darker) with HBO leading the way.

The second announcement is perhaps a little unusual. Apparently, Flynn scripted a reimagining “Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman” that Tim Burton is set to direct. This is a hard project to even picture, but with these names attached, it’s bound to be a mind-bending production.
Amy Adams in Talks to Star Opposite Jenna Ortega in Klara and the Sun
Last year we shared that Taika Waititi was onboard to direct the adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s Klara and the Sun. Now it appears, Jenna Ortega is onboard the AI-centered film and Amy Adams may be joining the cast. In a film that is sure to be both timely and thought-provoking, this dynamic duo would make a blockbuster out of this internationally bestselling story.
